ELKE FINKENAUER

MAY 2015 – JULY 2015

Finkenauer’s work reflects navigation between situations. It is an attempt to locate a space of both transition and simultaneity, a confluence of alienation and resolve. Her current work references DIY culture, celebrating making do and practical problem-solving as modes of production. Riffing on ideas of decorum, the work contrasts form and texture to evoke both a sensuous and sexual response, questioning notions of gender and value.

Elke was shortlisted for the Aesthetica Art Prize in 2014.

Pathetic Kenetic was a sculpture created especally for the garden at LUST & THE APPLE – a slighlty sarcastic look at male sexuality. Another work – The Perfectionist – was hung in the kitchen at the gallery.
